Group Therapy
What is Group Therapy, and how can it help me?
Group therapy is similar in many ways to individual therapy, and for most people has all the same benefits as well as a few more. In addition to the opportunity to express, heal, explore, and grow as human beings, groups have the added benefit of helping us connect with and learn from others in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental and confidential setting.
With small group dreamwork, for example, I would facilitate 3-6 clients together, either in-person or virtually, and on a regular, ongoing basis or for a prescribed number of weeks.
Group therapy can help you:
Realize you're not alone: It reduces feelings of isolation by showing that others face similar struggles, which can be comforting and normalizing.
Provide and receive support: Group members offer each other encouragement, feedback, and coping strategies, creating a supportive network.
Improve social skills: Interacting with others in the group helps develop better communication and interpersonal skills.
Gain different perspectives: Hearing how others deal with their problems can offer new insights and approaches to your own challenges.
Enhance self-awareness: Group dynamics often reflect real-life social interactions, helping you understand your strengths and limitations in relationships.
Facilitate your own personal growth: The safe environment allows you to express yourself, receive honest feedback, and work on changing behaviors.
Learn creative approaches to personal growth and healing by focusing on specific topics, issues, and therapy modalities: For example, I facilitate groups focused on learning and using Jungian approaches to dreamwork, cultivating your own personal therapeutic art practice, and reading discussions with group creative processes.
It may feel intimidating at first, but many people find group therapy to be a rewarding and transformative experience. In addition, it can be cost effective for those paying out of pocket for therapy, as the fee per session is lower than that of individual therapy.
Have an idea for a group? Let’s talk about it! I can tailor group processes on request and around particular modalities (art therapy and creative processes, Jungian dreamwork). Groups can also be designed with a focus on specific topics, issues, books and literature!
